HOPS IN SOUTHERN OREGON?

After 17 years raising cattle and growing hay in the Rogue Valley, the Pierce Family decided in 2008 to start a commercial hop yard here in Southern Oregon.  We want to revive the hop growing tradition that was so prevalent throughout Southern Oregon before completely disappearing by the 1980's. With an eye toward local community-supported agriculture and sustainable living, the entire family pitched in to augment our fields with 120 yards of certified organic compost, erect a trellising system, and plant 1800 Cascade rhizomes in April of 2009. Our fields are cow pastures, untouched by any non-organic fertilizers or pesticides, and we are certified 100% USDA Organic by Oregon Tilth.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL FARMER...

As a family farm business, Alpha Beta’s goal is to support local brewing with the best quality local organic hops.  As soon as our customer base is established, we will expand with other varieties of aromatic and bittering hops.  Alpha Beta Hop Yard is located across I-5 from Ashland at 700 Butler Creek Road, but our “sales team” always prefers business trips to talk beer at local breweries.  Whether you are a craft brewery or home brewer, we look forward to talking with you about how we can provide fresh, locally grown 100% organic hops for your brewing operation and encourage you to support local business and local sustainable agriculture.  In addition to buying our hops at Grains, Beans and Things, we ask you to support all our local craft brewers - especially those who use our hops: Standing Stone Brewing, Caldera Brewing, Wild River Brewing.
